Ladakh is inhabited by a population of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent. It is one of the least populated areas of Kashmir. Historically, the region included the valleys of Baltistan (Baltiyul), the Indus Valley, Zanskar, Lahaul and Spiti to the south, to the east Ngari including the Rudok and Guge region, and to the north the Nubras valleys across the Khardung La in the Ladakh mountain range.
